Pre-Marital/Pre-Nuptial Agreements

By Jamie Berger, Esq.

Hi everyone thank you for tuning in for this week’s episode of “Just Because”. Last week we talked about Valentine’s Day. Today I want to talk to you about something that is not quite as romantic but it’s practical and often times necessary in the context of Family Law. I´m going to talk to you about pre-nuptial agreements. Pre-nuptial agreements are a tool that we as lawyers us to protect our clients’ assets, protect their income and generally just set expectations in the event that your relationship doesn’t continue. Obviously it’s our hope that we draft these agreements for you and you never have to look at them again and you get to put them in a drawer and file them away, but that doesn’t always happen and we want to make sure that agreements are drafted in a way that our clients’ interests are truly protected. And in order to do that we need to have an understanding of your financial circumstances and your soon to be significant other´s financial circumstances in order to make sure that those agreements are complete and accurate. If you are considering marriage or remarriage please reach out to us so we can help you facilitate that process. Tune in next week for another exciting episode of “Just Because”.
